Attack The Block

 

 

 

Storyline  

Living in a rough area with a lot of crime. Attack the Block follows an unlucky young woman and gang of tough inner-city youths who make an unlikely alliance to try to defend their turf against an invasion of savage alien creatures, turning a South London apartment complex into a war-zone.

 

Binary oppositions set up in the film intro are:

Whites vs Black

Human vs Aliens

Good vs Bad

 

 

In terms of Binary oppositions, when it comes to Mise en scene;

 

Clothing : Boys are wearing hoodies, all dressed it black to hide their identity. Whereas the Woman is wearing a bright green jacket.

 

Setting: First shown at the train station, it is bright with people around the woman leaving the train station. Later it shows the boys in a blackout neighbourhood (the hood). Dark, Scary and Silent.

 

Camera Movement:

Close up were used when the woman first saw the boys in a group to show how weak and scared she was when she looked at them. The camera then switch to another close up on the boys face, this was also to show their facial expression, strong confident and tough.
