These are a example of a film called Roommate, and its convention order. Our film convention order is very similar to this however our last convention is 'written' by not 'director'. We thought that the person that write this film is a well known writer so we left it till last so that it is the last convention the audience sees and wont forget it. We wanted to sell our film so by putting a well known witter at the end, people will want to watch it for his good works

Our main aim  for our film was it make it similar to a teen crime film, involving drugs, crime, bullies sex , family , friendships and partying. we represented this through music, mise en scene, the actors and the settings. in terms of mise on scene we had the actors wearing what they are stereotypical presented. for example we got the bully in this film wearing all black which suggest crime and darkness. We included drug use because of lot of teenage boys get involved with drugs from a young age.

           Who would be the audience for your media product?

 


 

A wider audience for teen movies in general will be everyone that has a special interests of teenagers, such as coming of age , first love , rebellion, conflict with parents, teen angst or alienation. For example adults, they would be likely to watch teen movies because they want to reminisce back to when they were teens and just have a laugh. 

 

For example, in not another teen movie, there are a lot of stereotypical character that adults can relate to. they will watch this movie thinking i was once in that situation or laugh about a moment that was similar to theirs.

 

 

 

 

In my film, my target audience is teenagers. age 15-18 middle class, males. The Demographic of my audience would be young boys would are in education or not. in terms of race mostly black boys but some white. Boys will probably watch this with their friends or at home after college, school after playing, football or just mid day in the evening when they are bored. And will probably live in same part of London.

In my film, the main character, (Monte)l is gets bullied in school, his mother takes drugs, not having an easy life at home. Contently wears all black to not be noticed. This will attracted my target audience they might have some issues with bullying or not having an easy home life.

Technologies from the process of constructing this product.

In our Film is used a JVC Camera to for all our recording, this was very useful
as we had a Microphone on top of the camera that was able to pick up the volume of
the Actors voice very well.


We used a digital still camera to take process pictures of ourselves to put on the blog,  this was
significant as it showed us how much work we were doing and we able to take some pictures for fun
and memories of working in a group.

We used a flip camera to record interview's, feedback of our rough cut  and any voice overs that we needed for out film.

 We used Final Cut Pro to edit film and construction stages.We were able to cut bits that we didn't like and we were able to add transitions to make it more interesting. Also we were able to add Music.
We used Soundcloud to find non copy right music to use for our film. this was important as we wanted everything to be copy right.
 The Hard Drive keeps all our recoding for editing, to upload our rough cuts or any videos we wanted to post on the blog. This was essential as it had our film recoding on there, safe.

Looking at my prelim and my film. there are major difference and improvements that I have made. I have learnt a lot throughout this project and my knowledge of media , eg shot types, lighting, match ups, 360 degrees rule etc.

In my prelim I didn't have many good match cuts and most of my and shots were at the same angle . although in my prelim I tired to use shot reverse shot, it wasn't used accurately. And when one the character was walking up the stairs the camera wasn't steady. Although we did try and pan when the other character is sitting at the desk but it wasn't very smooth.  Throughout my prelim my camera wasn't steady. Whereas on our film we were able to have a variety of shots and different angle. Also we used a tripod which helped us keep our camera steady and gave it a professional look.



Furthermore, we didn't try any transitions which made our prelim very boring, there was no music and the editing was basic. Whereas in our film there was music which made the film  more interesting to watch and they were and the editing was way better because we were able to match cuts  as we had a variety of shoots to work with. in our film we had more focus on the camera

Finally, in our film we wanted it to be believable. although is wasn't really about the acting we wanted the audience to relate and have some time of connection with these characters, Which is why we made our actors practice theirs lines and have fun with it.
We wanted them to enjoy the moment.

Problems We Faced

We faced some problems, especially with our first rough cut. The shots were very shaky as we did not know how to use the tripod yet.

Also picking a storyline was a challenge as we had to chose something that would appeal to our audience males (15-18). However after weeks and weeks of planning we decided to come up with oyr Final story 'Shot Caller'

We also had times when we were not able to all meet up at the same time and this stressed us out a little bit, but it all worked out in the end, thank goodness!
With our second rough cut we did not realise until after that some shots were unfocused, this made our movie look really bad, therefore we removed those shots.

Picking music was also a difficult task due to copyright reasons, we were unable to use many of our desired song choices because they were not copyright free, however we managed to find covers of the original songs we liked that also sounded cool. :)

Choice of sound (editing)

We chose a song from sound cloud (Shot Caller). Usually the sound used for idents are mostly non-lyrical sound, more like music jingles, natural sounds or minimal speech. You never really hear proper songs/music. We decided to go against the conventional way of producing an ident sound as we felt the music we chose went extremely well with our plot and even with the idents.









We thought choosing this song instead of having a normal sound over the ident will be unique and a bit more interesting. As the song relates to the character so we wanted the audience to have that feel.

Before We Filmed

Important steps we followed before filming, this really helped us have an idea on how to film successful

 

• Keep the camera steady
•  Vary your shots
• Have actors walk in and out of the frame 
• Use the tracking shots to create movement
• Shoot plenty of  'Cutways' 
•  Mirror the actors POV
• Pan slowly in one direction only 
• Don't zoom (Zooming causes an amateurish look)
• Continuity is vital - Take photos 
• Match cuts make all the difference
• Remember 'The Thirds Rule' (The thirds rule is a grid you use to make sure your filming is in the centre.Most of the time you imagine the grid is there while recording to ensure the clip is accurate.)
•  Close ups are essential
• Finally number 
• NO HEAD SPACE - EV

We had equipment such as Fig Rig and a tripod. the advantages in using these equipment  is that the camera is steady while filming and it gives the film a professional look. Also using the Fig Rig allows you to get good close up and worm's eye view. the tripod allows you to get contestant good long shots

What i've learnt / My Experience

Throughout the course, I have learnt so many things and experienced different thing really enjoyed making the film and had a lot of fun. I would love to film another.

Filming / Editing  - Before filming, I have never actually used a camera to film a while 2minute piece and edited it. I thought filming would be a whole lot easier but it takes a lot of time and thinking. I learnt that while filming you need to take more than one shot and different angles to make it interesting, several shots in fact. This will help you when editing as you have many different shots and angles. I also learnt about the 180 degree and the thirds rule, and that it has a lot of impact on how your film will look like. Also I learnt to keep the camera still and make sure it was focus at all time, I had no idea about this before.

 

LOL me and Montell Filming, at this point im getting the hang of using the camera.

Editing was a enjoyable experience, although sometimes it was hard to figure out what to do, such as making sure the sound is above the shots that i had and using different transitions to make our film look a lot more interesting. 'slow motions was one main transitions that was used and made our film look a whole lot better.It enabled me to use Final Cut Pro. Before this I used it once or twice in my pervious school but I didn't really edit much using it , I found it difficult and complicated, However  I was able to explore and experiment with Final Cut Pro, it shows using the software, you  can pretty much edit any thing from films to music videos and even mini clips. I found it very interesting to use.













Using the equipment for filming was probably what i was not good at to start with. The JVC camera has so many bottoms trust me, you will end up forgetting what each buttons does. However, it took me a while and the help of my group members to figure out how to use it. And i now able to record use use a fig rig and a tripod which made our film look very professional as it was still and  we were able to get so many different angles and shots by 
Using shots such as, long shot, close up, bird eye , panning, shot reverse shot etc

I learnt how to blog consistently, the blog almost became my everyday thing, before I go to bed I would make sure I blog just like a dairy and keep it up to date, I found that really fun and I able to treat the blog like it was my personal site and have fun with it.

I Also learnt about different teen films and what they all had in common. I was able to spot out the stereo typical points in many teen film that i have recently watched. lol and now when I watch any sort of teen films I look at for the same conventions and think to myself, ' knew that was gonna happened'.

Overall, I really enjoyed working with my group and i had a lot of fun, and experienced new skills such as using Final Cut Pro, using the Fig Rig(which was my first time using that ),being able to take the camera out of college and filming it in the locations our film was set in was a great experience .Making this film made me have a film of what the filming / media industry would be like and i loved every moment of it. :D
